KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Rockford left 13 men on base, stranding the tying or go-ahead runs in six different innings, and lost to Kalamazoo, 6-2, in the series opener.

Donnie Burkhalter hit a pinch-hit RBI single off Jason Glosser (3-2) in the sixth to give the Kings a 3-2 lead. It was the only run Glosser allowed in 2 2/3 innings, but it was enough to give him the loss.

Glosser relieved starter Joe Barbosa, who lasted just 4 1/3 innings and surrendered two runs for a no-decision. Kings' starter Jeff Garner (3-3) threw six innings and gave up two runs for the win.

The Hawks never led in the game but tied the contest on two occasions. Losing 1-0 in the third, Rockford got even when Doug Schutt doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a fielder's choice hit into by Aaron McEachran.

McEachran had a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games, two games shy of tying the team record, set by Ben Fjelland in 2002.

Rockford tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth on an RBI single by Mike Lynch, but Burkhalter's hit in the bottom of the inning gave the Kings the lead for good. Kalamazoo then added three insurance runs in the ninth off Bobby Mack.

The RiverHawks continue their series in Kalamazoo on Monday, beginning at 4:05 p.m. CDT. The ‘Hawks are back at Marinelli Field at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday to begin the final homestand at Marinelli Field. They'll move into their new stadium after the all-star break.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
