Otters take middle game

The Evansville Otters got a 3-for-3 performance from Frank Scott and strong pitching from Brian Kroll and two relievers in beating the Florence Freedom 7-2.

After the Freedom got on the board in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead, Evansville tied it on Scott's first hit of the game scoring Scott Ward.

The Otters scored three in the third inning, keyed by back-to-back doubles by Josh Stewart, who was making his professional debut, and Ward to make it 4-1. Evansville broke the game open with three more in the seventh, the final two coming on a Brian McKenna homer to make it 7-1. Florence tacked on a run in the ninth to create the 7-2 margin of victory.

Kroll (2-2) got the win for Evansville. He went five innings allowing one run and striking out four. Nathan Stone pitched three scoreless innings and Adam Zimmerman pitched the ninth.

The series wraps up tomorrow with Andre Simpson (2-3) taking to the mound against Joel Posey (3-0). Game time is 7:05 p.m.
