Rockford RiverHawks News Release
O'FALLON, Miss. - The RiverHawks came from behind with three runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to defeat River City, 8-4, and even the series at a game apiece.
Aaron McEachran, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games, hit a three-run homer in the eighth to give Rockford a 5-4 lead.
With runners on first and third and nobody out in the top of the ninth, Mike Lynch doubled home Matt Sauls, who led off the frame with a double. Todd Dulaney brought in another run with a suicide squeeze bunt-the second time this week manager Mike Young has used the play. Brian Baron then capped off a 4-5 night with an RBI single to give the Hawks another insurance run.
Joe Barbosa (3-0) picked up his third straight win, throwing seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. Barbosa, who was coming off of consecutive complete-game shutouts, surrendered two home runs, a two-run shot in the third by Kirk McConnell and a solo blast in the fifth by Anthony Slagle.
Bobby Mack and Jason Glosser each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to preserve Rockford's 12th road victory in 17 games away from Marinelli.
River City starter Steve Brook left the game after seven innings with a 4-2 lead, but reliever Wes Hutchison (1-1) gave up six runs, four earned, in an inning plus three batters into the ninth.
The win ended the Hawks' three-game losing streak and kept them in a tie for first place with Kalamazoo in the West division.
Rockford had six doubles in the game, three by Baron alone.
The RiverHawks conclude their series in River City on Wednesday, starting at 7:05 p.m. They return home at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday, when Miller Lite sponsors Dollar Beer Night.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
