Evansville Otters News Release
WASHINGTON, PA â The Otters scored three runs in the top of the fifth en route to a 5-3 win over the Washington Wild Things.
The Wild Things scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out in front of Otters starter Jeremy Lewis. The two earned runs in the first were more than Lewis had allowed all year to that point.
The Otters came back in the third inning. With Denver Stuckey on third and Cole Hilt on second, Terrence McClain grounded a ball through the middle for an RBI single tying the game at 2-2.
The Otters would go in front to stay in the top of the fifth when leading 3-2, Sean Flynn drove an RBI triple into the right field corner, giving Evansville a 5-2 lead. The Wild Things scored once in the sixth to close the gap, but Jeremy Lewis and Amad Stephens nailed the ballgame shut for Evansville.
Lewis picked up his second win of the season against no losses going 7.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, walking one and striking out five. Amad Stephens pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing just one hit, striking out two for his third save. For Stephens, it was the 14th save of his Otters career moving him into second place on the all-time Evansville list, breaking the tie he had held with B. J. Richter. Kyle May holds the record with 24.
In the finale of the series, Grant Williams will throw for the Otters. Williams is coming off a dominating performance of Kalamazoo where he allowed two hits and two walks, striking out a career high 14. He will be opposed by Grant Dorn for Washington. Dorn has no record this season with a 6.23 ERA.
