Otters rally falls short

SAGINAW, MI - Tyler Murovich scored twice and added two assists to lead the Saginaw Spirit to a 6-4 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight at The Dow Events Center. Nick Crawford, Ryan Schnell, Cody Sol and T.J. Brodie also scored for Saginaw while Joe Pleckaitis collected three assists. The Spirit ended a five-game losing streak with the win to improve to 31-20-2-4 on the year. Brandon Biggers paced the Otters with two goals and an assist while Justin Hodgman added a goal and two assists. Luke Gazdic netted the other goal for the Otters, who dropped their second straight and are now 29-26-2-1 on the campaign. Saginaw led 3-0 after one. The Spirit scored in the opening minute of the second to build a 4-0 lead only to see the Otters scored three times in 2:12 late in the period to close to within 4-3. However, only 45 seconds after the Otters made it a one-goal game Saginaw struck to restore a two-goal advantage, up 5-3 after two. Hodgman made it 5-4 midway through the third before the Spirit hit the empty net to salt away the victory. Erie out shot the Spirit 50-45 in the game as Shane Owen started and took the loss. The three stars of the game were 1. Murovich; 2. Hodgman and 3. Pleckaitis.

The Otters complete a three-game weekend tomorrow (Saturday) night in Plymouth against the Whalers. The game can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:05 p.m. The next Otters home game takes place Saturday, February 28th when the Ottawa 67's visit the Tullio Arena for a 7 p.m. start presented by EMTA. The first 1,000 fans into the game will receive a Ryan O'Reilly lithograph penned by Kevin-John Jobczynski. Sunday, March 1st it's the Otters and the Plymouth Whalers in a special 4:30 p.m. start at the Tullio Arena presented by Allen Insurance. The first 500 children (12 and under) into the game receive an Otters Autograph Book and a Meet and Greet with the players will follow the game.
