Washington, PAâ Grant Williams threw his second quality start in as many games at Falconi Field this season as the Otters topped the Washington Wild Things 4-2. The win puts Evansville just ½ game behind the Wild Thinsg for first place in the East Division.
Washington scored first in the second on a double by Bill Greenwell and a single by Chad Kinyon. Evansville countered with three in the fourth inning to take the lead.
The Otters tacked on a run in the fourth when with two outs David Trujillo tripled followed by a single by Terrence McClain to give the Otters a 4-1 lead. Washington came back to score a run in the sixth, but 1-2-3 innings by Grant Williams in the eighth and Amad Stephens in the ninth to lock down the win.
Williams went to 7-0 on the season, tying Joe Dooley from Gateway as the only 7-0 pitchers in the league. The all-star went eight innings, allowing six hits and two runs, walking three and striking out six. Stephens recorded his 13th save, striking out two. The save was the 24th of Stephens career, tying him with Kyle May for the Otters' all-time record.
Evansville sends Andre Simpson to the mound in the final game of the series. Simpson will be looking for his sixth win of the season against just two losses. He will be Opposed by Matt McDonnell for the Wild Things.
