(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - Sergio Miranda's time with the Evansville Otters was short.

The infielder signed with the Otters on May 8th from the Milwaukee Brewers (Class AA-Huntsville) and is already returning to affiliated ball after his contract was purchased by the Atlanta Braves today.

"We are very happy that Sergio has the opportunity to play in the Braves organization," said Evansville's Director of Player Personnel Kevin Cope. "He has done well throughout his career and should continue with Atlanta."

Miranda is a former 13th round pick of the Chicago White Sox and has hit .286 during his five year professional career.

"It is great for Sergio to get this opportunity," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "We thought he'd be a good player in this league and get the chance to move on. Hopefully more Otters get this opportunity later this summer."

Evansville also made a few more transactions today as the Otters released RHP Josh Cephas, OF Ryde Rodriguez, and C Lucas Shaw. The team also placed RHP Alfredo Venegas on the 14-day injured list, retroactive to May 13.

Opening Day, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, is this Friday, May 18. Evansville hosts the Washington Wild Things with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. CDT. There will be Salvation Army kettles around the park for charitable donations as well as a 53,000 penny pickup after the final out for all children in attendance.
