May 16, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
Opening day of Otter Ball is just 2 days away! The Evansville Otters open their 18th season at Bosse Field this Friday, May 18. The Otters will take on the Washington Wild Things at 6:35 pm.
"For the past 13 years, Fifth Third Bank has helped us set the tone by sponsoring an opening night full of fun events," says Bill Bussing, President of the Evansville Otters. "We're confident our fans will not be disappointed."
The Otters will join longtime corporate partner Fifth Third Bank in presenting an opening night that celebrates baseball, demonstrates fan appreciation and embraces community outreach. The first 5000 fans entering the ballpark will receive a magnet schedule, and Fifth Third Bank will distribute buckets to the first 600 kids to participate in the popular 53,000 penny pick up, immediately following the game.
Fifth Third Bank and the Otters are also collaborating to help The Salvation Army wage its War on Hunger. A portion of the evening's proceeds will go toward providing meals for The Salvation Army soup kitchen and its food pantry. Every day, The Salvation Army feeds an average of 250 people. Every week, 150 families receive five days of meals from The Salvation Army food pantry.
The iconic Salvation Army Red Kettles will be placed around Bosse Field and fans are encouraged to fill them with donations. "We know that so many people in our area rely on The Salvation Army in these tough economic times, so we are pleased to support their efforts while celebrating another season of Otters baseball," says Shelley Kirk, Marketing Director for Fifth Third Bank. "With the help of Otters fans, we look forward to bringing in donations to help those most in need in our community."
