Otters Home For Two
December 4, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League return to action with a pair of 7 p.m. home games Friday and Saturday at the Tullio Arena.
Friday it's the Otters and the Windsor Spitfires presented by the PA Lottery with the first 2,500 adults into the game receiving a scratch-off ticket coupon.
Saturday it's Teddy Bear Toss Night as the Otters welcome the Sarnia Sting. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game and receive a free ticket coupon to a future Otters game (certain restrictions apply). Plus, when the Otters score their first goal of the game you can throw your stuffed animal onto the ice. All toys will be collected and donated to local children's charities.
Tickets for both games are available at all Erie-area Ticketmaster locations, the Civic Center Box Office, on line at www.ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
The Otters, now 13-13-2-0, enter the two games against West Division opponents coming off a 4-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday. The win marked the Otters first in Kitchener since February 10, 2006 and gave them a 3-1 lead in the eight-game season series between the two teams.
Brandon Biggers paced the Otters offense in the game with two goals, his ninth and 10th of the season. The overage forward is enjoying his best offensive campaign with 25 points in 28 games and is only three goals, one assist and four points away from matching his career highs for goals (13), assists (16) and points (29) in a season established last year with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
Shawn Szydlowski and Greg McKegg rounded out the Erie scoring. Szydlowski ended a four-game pointless streak with the goal while McKegg has now scored in back-to-back games after going goalless in the first 26 games of the season.
The Spitfires arrive at the Tullio Arena sporting the best record in the Ontario Hockey League at 24-3-0-0 (prior to a home game Thursday against Guelph). Taylor Hall continues to pace all point-getters in the OHL with 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points in 27 games. In addition, Hall's 21 goals are second most in the OHL. Ryan Ellis is second in League scoring and the runaway leader for points among defensemen. The second-year defender has 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points (10 more than any other OHL defenseman) in 27 games.
The Sting visit the Tullio Arena for the first time this year sporting a 12-13-2-1 record (prior to games Thursday against Mississauga and Friday in Niagara). Justin DiBenedetto is the offensive kingpin for the Sting with 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points in 23 games to rank sixth in League scoring.
Both games can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. Saturday's game can be seen live on the Image Sports Network beginning at 7 p.m.
