
Anderson, Smith-Pelly Named to World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are proud to announce that Majors rookie goaltender JP Anderson and rookie forward Devanté Smith-Pelly have been named to the roster of one of the five Canadian teams at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The roster was announced by Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League. The tournament will bring together some of the world's top players born in 1992 or later, and it will take place from December 29, 2008 to January 4, 2009 in Port Alberni, BC.
Anderson, a 5'10, 175 lbs. goalie, appeared in 9 games with the Majors, and has recorded a 2.76 GAA and a 0.904 save percentage so far this season. The 16 year-old native of Toronto, Ontario was the Majors 2nd round pick (30th overall) of the 2008 OHL Priority Selection, and played for the Toronto Marlboros prior to joining the Mississauga squad this year.
Smith-Pelly, also 16 years old, was the Majors 1st round pick (8th overall) of the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. The 5'11", 180 lbs. forward from Scarborough, Ontario has collected 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 24 games played with the Mississauga club this year, and played for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens prior to joining the Majors.
Both Anderson and Smith-Pelly will be eligible for the NHL Entry Draft in 2010.
The tournament features ten (10) teams in total where the five from Canada will be joined by teams from Finland, Germany, Russia, Slovakia and the United States. Canada's five regional teams are Pacific (Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon), West (Manitoba, Nunavut, Saskatchewan), Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island).

The Majors visit the Sarnia Sting tonight at 7:30 p.m. and the Guelph Storm this Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Then, they take on the Battalion in Brampton on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. All Majors road games are available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
Mississauga will host the annual Teddy Bear Toss, in partnership with Peel Regional Police, when they return home next Friday night to battle the Niagara IceDogs at 7:30 p.m. Then, the Majors honour alumnus and Hall of Famer, Dave Keon, on Sunday, December 14 versus the Kingston Frontenacs at 2 p.m.
