Oakville, Ontario - Alex DeBrincat scored four goals and Connor McDavid notched a goal and four assists in Erie's 8-6 loss and their final exhibition game of the year.

In a familiar pattern, Mississauga jumped out to an early lead with Greg DiTomaso redirecting the puck behind Daniel Dekoning 34 seconds into the first. Erie's Kyle Maksimovich tried to tie things up, but Alex DeBrincat put the puck in the net on a 2-on-1 with help from Connor McDavid. Halfway through the period, Mississauga took another one-goal lead on a goal from Lucas Venuto before Nick Zottl made it 3-1 for the Steelheads. A two-goal lead wasn't enough for Mississauga as Cody Thompson upped the score to 4-1. DeBrincat netted his second goal of the period on the power play with assists going to McDavid and Patrick Murphy to close out the period.

Keeping up the pattern, the opening goal of the second period went to McDavid, bringing back the two-goal lead 57 seconds in. Everett Clark added another goal to the Steelheads's tally before DeBrincat put another puck in the back of the net for the hat trick, cutting Mississauga's lead to 5-4. DeBrincat quickly tied the game at five with his fourth goal of the game. With one minute left in the second period, Bryson Cianfrone gave the Steelheads their lead back heading into the locker room.

Dylan Strome wasted no time and tied up the game at six to open the third period with help from T.J. Fergus and Maksimovich. With less than five minutes to play, DiTomaso broke the tie and put Mississauga back on top, 7-6. The silence broken, Sam Babintsev gave the Steelheads an insurance goal and extended the lead by two. With a minute left in the period, Erie pulled Dekoning for the extra attacker, but the Steelheads kept the Otters off the board for the 8-6 final.

Erie drops the puck on the regular season in Saginaw on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:11 p.m.
