Belleville Bulls News Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - In their only home game of the pre-season, the Belleville Bulls hosted their east division riavals the Peterborough Petes at the Yardmen Arena on Saturday night. After a come from behind shootout loss in Peterborough two weeks ago, the Bulls redeemed themselves with an impressive offensive outing defeating the Petes 6-1.

Looking to gain momentum early the Bulls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Port Perry native Jake Bricknell and rookie Matt Luff who was coming off a two goal performance in a loss to the Erie Otters. With lots of power play chances for both clubs no one could capitalize as the Bulls headed to the dressing room with a 2 goal lead after a sloppy and chippy first period. Shots were tied at nine in the frame.

Net minder Charlie Graham was tested early in the second as the Petes started the period on the man advantage but couldn't beat the Toronto native. Graham made 32 saves in the win. After being taken down in front of the Peterborough goal, Matt Luff was awarded a penalty shot and made no mistake as he scored his second of the game on a beautiful move to beat Dylan Wells. "Matt has looked super strong, he is looking like a big strong power forward out there and has found ways to score. He's driving the net hard, skating well and showing his size so hopefully hes going to put himself on the map for the National Hockey League draft." said Assistant Coach Jake Grimes following the win. At the 12:32 mark the Petes finally got on the score sheet thanks to rookie Adam Timleck but the Bulls didn't let up as Adam Laishram potted one seconds later off assists from Aaron Berisha and Niki Petti. After 40 minutes of play the Bulls lead the Petes 4-1.

The chippy play continued into the 3rd stanza as the Bulls found themselves on another power play around the 10 minute mark. This time it was Brandon Saigeon who made the Petes pay as he snapped one home with helpers from Brett Gustavsen and Justin Bean. Saigeon wasn't finished and he added one more to put his club up 6-1 on a slap shot from just over centre ice. The Bulls lead 36-33 in shots as Peterborough's Dylan Wells made 30 saves in the loss. Your Bulls will travel to Brockville on Sunday for an afternoon tilt with the Ottawa 67's to finish up their pre-season schedule.

Don't forget to purchase your tickets for our regular season home opener on Saturday September the 27th as your Bulls take on the Sudbury Wolves at 7:05! Thanks to all Bulls fans who came out and showed their support in the only home game of the pre-season.
