Evansville Otters News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Evansville Otters scored five runs in the first three innings and Heather Heiberger threw seven magnificent innings as the Evansville Otters beat the Washington Wild Things 6-1 in the first of two day games this season at Bosse Field.

The Otters got on the board in the first inning playing some small ball. Steve Martin walked and stole second. After Denver Stuckey walked, the Otters pulled off a double steal to put runners on second and third with no outs. Cole Hilt and Brett McCutchan hit back-to-back groundouts to plate both Martin and Stuckey, giving the Otters a 3-0 lead.

Evansville would score one in the second and two in the third to build the lead to 5-0 before a Jay Coakley homer put the Wild Things on the tally sheet at 5-1.

The story of the game was Heiberger who went seven innings, allowing only two hits and one run, walking two while striking out a career high eight in the contest. Tim Saunders pitched the final two innings to close out the game.

The Otters start a three game series against the Florence Freedom on Wednesday evening. Andre Simpson will take the mound for Evansville. Florence' probable starter is Bobby Graves.
