Evansville Otters News Release
Brian McKenna's homerun in the fourth inning was all the offense that the Evansville Otters needed as Ben Foster and three relievers shut down the Rockford RiverHawks offense in check as Evansville beat Rockford 6-3.
The two teams were scoreless heading into the top of the fourth. Cole Hilt led off the inning with a single off the glove of Todd Dulaney. McKenna then took Derek Roper's first pitch over the leftfield wall for his sixth homer of the season and a 2-0 Otters lead.
Holding that 2-0 lead in the fifth, Hilt had runners on the corners and two outs when he doubled to centerfield off the glove of Doug Schutt, scoring Denver Stuckey and Juan Downing to make it 4-0.
Rockford scored their only run in the game in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Shaff Elkouri. The teams traded runs in the ninth to tally the final margin of victory.
Ben Foster (3-1) got the win for Evansville going 6.1 innings allowing four hits and a run. Derek Roper (3-1) took the loss for Rockford.
Game two of the series is tomorrow night with Bryan Shartzer (2-0) going for the Otters against Justin Olson (1-1) who will start for Rockford. The game can be heard on 91.5 WUEV. Wednesday's game starts at 7:05 p.m.
