Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters (47-45) begin a four-game, three-day series against the River City Rascals (50-42) tonight.

The teams will complete a suspended game from May 30 before playing a seven-inning game later tonight. The suspended game is tied 9-9 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Evansville has the go-ahead run at third with two outs. Gabe Shaw will continue to pitch for River City. Evansville has not named who will be pitching for them in the resuming of the suspended game. The Otters scored four runs in the bottom of the eight on May 30 before a rain delay suspended the game until today.

First pitch is set for 5:35 pm CDT at Historic Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana. Game two will begin roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Evansville enters this series after being swept by the Frontier League West Division champion Schaumburg Boomers. River City has just swept Southern Illinois, has won four straight games and are 1.5 games back of the final playoff spot.

Evansville will welcome back reliever Patrick Crider tonight. Crider was released by the Otters earlier this season but signed with River City the following week. Crider holds the Otters single season (55) and all-time appearances (133) records. Crider's 55 appearances in 2011 set the Frontier League single season record. He has thrown in the third most Frontier League games (169). His next appearance at Bosse Field will be his first since being released by the Otters.

Evansville is 66-85 all time against River City. The Otters are 5-0 against the Rascals this season, 2-0 at Bosse Field and 3-0 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Outfielder Chris Elder enters tonight's contests on a five-game hitting streak that has raised his batting average 46 points. A triple tonight from outfielder John Schultz would give him 8 this year, setting the Otters single season triple record.

A victory tonight would give Evansville 48 wins this season, guaranteeing the team a .500 record or better for the first time since 2005 (52-43).

The Otters will have left-hander Ryan Gibson (1-5, 3.35 ERA) starting the second game against River City righty Tommy Mendoza (4-7, 6.22 ERA).

It is Deaconess Women's Hospital Night at historic Bosse Field. Fans can enjoy $1 popcorn throughout the course of the game.

Bosse Field gates will open at 5:00 pm CDT.

The Otters pregame show starts at 5:15 pm on WUEV 91.5 FM.

Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Evansville Otters front office at 812-435-8686.
