Joliet Slammers News Release

(Schaumburg, IL) - The Joliet Slammers (36-57) received another good start from Shawn Kale, but the offense is shut down by the Schaumburg Boomers (59-36), losing by a final of 3-1 at Boomer Stadium on Tuesday in Schaumburg, IL.

Kale (5-5) suffers the tough defeat after tossing seven complete innings while allowing only three runs on five hits with 5 strikeouts. Shawn Sanford threw six innings with six punch-outs and picked up victory number 10 after allowing only one run to score on four hits for Joliet.

Kale sent the Boomers down in order in the bottom of the first, however leading off in the second inning, Steve Mcquail crushed a baseball to deep left center field for his 20th home run of the season, putting Schaumburg on top 1-0. The Boomers added another run in the inning and would keep it a 2-0 game until the top of the sixth.

Joe Meggs walked with two outs and after a Riley single, Nick Akins recorded RBI number 62 on his second hit of the evening that cut the Boomers lead to one run at 2-1.

In the seventh inning, the Boomers added one insurance run to stretch their lead to 3-1, which they would hold onto after strand two Joliet base runners in the ninth.

Mike Barsotti (1-3, 3.02) picks up the baseball on the bump Wednesday for Joliet in the middle game of this three game series against Seth Webster (6-1, 2.18) for Schaumburg. First pitch comes home at 6:30 and the pre game show on 1340 WJO starts at 6:20 p.m. on 1340 WJOL.
