
Normal CornBelter Named to Frontier League Post-Season All-Star Team

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are proud to announce shortstop Patrick McKenna has been named a Frontier League Post-Season All-Star. Voting was done by general managers, coaching staffs and local media in all of the Frontier League markets. The CornBelters continue their final home stand of the 2013 season tonight at 7 p.m. at The Corn Crib with the first game of a three-game series versus the Rockford Aviators.
"Pat is one of the most talented players I have coached in years," said CornBelters Field Manager, Brooks Carey. "No one works harder. He deserves all the recognition that comes his way."
Playing in 77 games for the CornBelters this season, McKenna is hitting .284 and leads the team in home runs (16) and RBI (56). Earlier this season, he was selected as the starting shortstop in the Frontier League All-Star Game, where he went 0-2 at the plate in a 4-2 West Division win .
McKenna was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 27 th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball (MLB) June Amateur Draft. He spent two seasons within the Tigers organization (2009 & 2010) and one within the San Diego Padres organization (2011). In 25 games with the Tucson Padres (Pacific Coast League - Triple A), he hit .250 with 14 hits, 12 doubles, 10 runs and a .323 on-base percentage. Prior to an injury last season, he hit .281 with 56 hits, 12 doubles and 25 RBI in 57 games played for the CornBelters. He was one of five players selected to represent the team at the 2012 Frontier League All-Star Game.
