
Nation Tosses Complete-Game Shutout in Win

Marion, IL - Blake Nation could not have finished a season any better. Nation threw his first complete-game shutout of the season as the Miners defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 1-0 on Tuesday evening. The Miners are now 50-44 on the season. With the win, Nation finishes the season at 11-2.
Cannon Lester broke up the stalemate between the Miners and Grizzlies in the bottom of the fifth inning, as he hit a RBI double off Grizzlies starter Jake Stephens to give Southern Illinois a 1-0 lead.
The Miners offense recorded five hits in the contest. Jon Eisen, Ken Gregory, Jereme Milons, Trevor Whyte and Cannon Lester all provided hits for the Miners.
Southern Illinois and Gateway will play game two on Wednesday evening at Rent One Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Fans can tune in to the Miners Radio Network, southernillinoisminers.com and ustream.tv beginning at 6:45 pm with the Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception. It has also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007.
