March 30, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled defenceman Brad Norton from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, on an emergency basis to replace Wade Redden, who will be absent for personal reasons. This is Norton's first call-up to the Ottawa Senators.
Norton, who signed a two-way NHL contract with Ottawa on March 8, joined Binghamton on Dec. 20 after being claimed off waivers from the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL). The 31-year-old, who signed a contract with Grand Rapids to return to the AHL, started the season with Jokerit Helsinki in Finland, recording two goals, two assists and 93 penalty minutes in 20 games.
In 32 games this season with Binghamton, Norton has four assists and 100 penalty minutes. He has missed the last four games from March 18 to 24 due to the flu.
In 111 career NHL games over three seasons with Florida, Los Angeles and Washington, the defenseman accumulated 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and 236 penalty minutes.
Binghamton is fifth in the East Division with 30 wins, 32 losses, four overtime losses and four shootout losses for 68 points. The Senators return to action on Friday, March 31, when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit Binghamton.
