B2 Networks AHL Game of the Week

March 30, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

Las Vegas, NV - With only three weekends to go in the AHL regular season, the focus of B2's Game of the Week goes north of the border this weekend as the red hot Grand Rapids Griffins put their 10-game winning streak on the line when the meet the hard charging Manitoba Moose Friday and Saturday nights from the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The starting time for both games is 8:35pm EST and they can be seen exclusively on B2 Networks.

The Griffins have run away with the North Division with an astounding record of 52-16-1-4, good for 109 points and the best record in the entire AHL. The Griffins are carrying a team record 10-game winning streak into this weekend series and need 5 wins to tie the AHL record for most wins in a season. Dominating in all aspects of the game has been the key to the success of Grand Rapids. Donald MacLean has been the lead sniper in the league, lighting the lamp 53 times in 2005-06. Jiri Hudler ranks 3rd in the AHL with 90 points (36-54-90) as the Griffs have 7 players with 20 or more goals this season. Rookie Jimmy Howard has been nothing short of spectacular this season. The rookie netminder from the University of Maine has a record of 24-4-2, with a GAA of 2.56 and a save percentage of .911. A former 2nd round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, Howard has a personal 11-game winning streak heading into the weekend.

Despite a seemingly endless list of roster moves with the parent club Vancouver Canucks, the Manitoba Moose have put together a very impressive campaign and are fighting for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. With last night's 4-3 OT win against Toronto, the Moose have a record of 40-21-6-5, 91 points, just one point behind the Syracuse Crunch in the race for 2nd place in the division. Jesse Schultz leads a balanced scoring attack for the Moose with 35 goals including the game winner against Toronto. Veteran netminder Wade Flaherty has 23 wins on the season but will need all his experience to stop the high octane attack of Grand Rapids. Fans wanting to watch either game will be able to access the broadcast through the individual team websites, or the league site www.theahl.com. The cost to watch each game is the usual price of $6 dollars. A high speed internet connection and a current version of Windows Media Player are required to view the events.
