
Ottawa falls to Nashua 5-3

(OTTAWA, ON) June 4, 2008 - In the second game of their three-game home stand, the Ottawa Rapidz were defeated 5-3 by the Nashua Pride.
For the second night in a row, Rapidz fans experienced great pitching this time between Adam Hawes (1-2) for the Rapidz and Lance Stevens (2-0) for the Pride. Hawes who was given the loss for the Rapidz went 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out six. Outdueling Hawes was Lance Stevens who pitched a no-hitter through five innings of work, eventually going seven complete innings while allowing 3 runs, 0 earned runs, four walks, seven strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Andrew Weimer earned his third save of the season for Nashua.
Nashua opened the scoring in the fifth, with Bryan Duplissie and Jerod Edmonston singling to open the inning. After an errant pick-off attempt at first allowed Duplissie to score, Sandy Almonte and Argenis Tavarez singled to drive in the second run.
Nashua continued the scoring into the sixth with a leadoff homerun by Dennis Abreu and a two-run home run by Bryan Duplissie to make the score 5-0 for Nashua after six.
Replacing Hawes was new-acquired pitcher Jose Guanchez for the Rapidz. Guanchez went 2 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 2 in his solid Rapidz pitching debut.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rapidz gave the fans some excitement. After Jereme Milons reached base on an error and Jabe Bergeron earned a walk, Kyle Geiger hit his team leading third home run to cut the Nashua lead to 5-3.
The Pride added a final run in the top of the ninth after Sandy Almonte doubled and Ismael Castro hit an RBI single for a final score of 6-3 for Nashua.
The Rapidz and Pride will meet again Thursday, June 5 at 11:05am for "Let's Play Hooky" day. Noel Baca III (0-0) will face Nicolas Suero (0-2).
