Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - *It was a pitchers dual the entire game. Skyhawks pitcher Craig Snipp (1-1) went seven scoreless innings allowing five hits and striking out four. Brockton Rox starter John Kelly, went six innings allowing one run on five hits and striking out six.
It was a scoreless tie until Jay Yaconetti belted his first home run of the season over the left field wall off of Kelly in the fifth. The blast ended up being the game winner for the Skyhawks. Matt Weston also added his first knock of the year to right center in the eighth.
Matt Petrusek entered the game in the eighth to capture his fourth save. Petrusek went two innings allowing two hits, one walk, and struck out three. He had a bit of a scare in the ninth by loading the bases with one out but managed to get out of it with a strikeout and flyout to end the game.
The Skyhawks improved to 5-1 on the year against the Brockton Rox with a 6-8 overall record for the 2008 season.
The Skyhawks will enjoy a day off Thursday. Action will resume Friday night at Skylands Park against the New Jersey Jackals.
