Oswalt's Strong Outing Not Enough in 3-2 Loss to River Cats

Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Sacramento, CA - Despite five scoreless innings from right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt in his second start with the team, the Albuquerque Isotopes were unable to generate enough offense in a 3-2 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday evening at Sutter Health Park. The Topes have dropped their last two contests and are now 3-6 on this season-long 12-game road trip.
Oswalt allowed one baserunner in each of his five frames but stranded all of them. Sacramento left a runner on third base in the fourth and fifth innings. Oswalt gave up four hits, while walking one and fanning three.
Albuquerque's bats were silenced by River Cats starter Emanuel De Jesus, who allowed just one hit and two walks in five scoreless innings of his own.
The Isotopes missed a golden chance to score in the sixth. Walks by Taylor Snyder and Sean Bouchard resulted in runners at the corners with one out, but the next two hitters were retired without a run crossing the plate.
Nate Griep relieved Oswalt to start the sixth and immediately surrendered a solo homer to Jason Vosler, breaking the scoreless tie. Wyatt Mathisen delivered the crushing blow to Albuquerque later in the frame with a two-out, two-run double.
In the seventh, Jonathan Morales led off with a walk before Dom Nuñez singled. Following an out, D.J. Peterson delivered a bloop single to put the visitors on the board. However, Albuquerque once again could not capitalize with runners on the corners and one out, as a pair of Sacramento relievers set down the next two batters.
Nuñez lined a one-out solo homer to right in the ninth, but the Isotopes went quietly from there to finish the 3-2 defeat.
Topes Scope: - Oswalt completed his longest outing of the season, his previous high was 3.0 innings (four different occasions). It was his first time pitching at least five frames since Aug. 30, 2019 with Triple-A Syracuse at Rochester (5.1).
