Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Former University of Texas All-America pitcher and current National Pro Fastpitch star Cat Osterman recently was traded from the Tennessee Diamonds to the USSSA Florida Pride. The Diamonds traded Osterman for former University of Tennessee All-America pitcher Monica Abbott.

Osterman's trade impacts the Ryan Sanders Showdown NPF Softball Series that will be held Aug. 12-15 at The Dell Diamond. The series pits Osterman's Pride against the Chicago Bandits. The trade sets up a dream pitching match up in the series Osterman against former University of Arizona All-American Jennie Finch.

"This is great news for softball fans and sports fans in general," Ryan Sanders Baseball CEO Reid Ryan said. "To have the matchup between Cat and Jennie is going to be huge. These are the two most high-profile figures in the sport."

The trade enables Osterman the opportunity to return to the Austin area, where she dominated the collegiate softball world from 2002 to 2006. It also reunites her with catcher Megan Willis, who was Osterman's catcher while at Texas. Osterman and Willis led the Rockford Thunder to the NPF title last season.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to play back in Texas," Osterman said. "The support for softball in the Austin area has always been huge, and it will be great to see that support for our professional games, as well."

Osterman established NCAA Division I career records with a 0.51 ERA, 14.34 strikeouts per 7.0 innings, 20 no-hitters and 10 perfect games during her time at Texas. She also ranks second in NCAA history with 2,265 career strikeouts and tied for second with 85 career shutouts.

A seven-time member of the USA Softball National Team, Osterman led Team USA to the Gold Medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the Silver Medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She tossed a 13-strikeout no-hitter against Australia in the 2008 Games, only the second no-hitter in U.S. Olympic history. Osterman owns a 59-4 record in 104 career games with the National Team, including a 5-1 mark in Olympic competition.

Osterman previously pitched for the Stratford Brakettes of the Amateur Softball Association and the NPF's Rockford Thunder. In her professional debut with the Thunder, Osterman struck out 24 batters in a complete-game, 12-inning, 1-0 win.

Florida and Chicago will play five games in the four-day period with single games at 7 p.m. CDT Thursday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 13, a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, and a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15.

Tickets are now on sale through the Dell Diamond ticket office. Reserved tickets are $10 per game with general admission tickets for $5 per game.
