New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

A two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game was not enough for the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday night, as the Fresno Grizzlies responded with four runs in the top of the ninth to claim an 8-4 win in the series opener.

Trailing 4-2 entering the eighth, the Zephyrs rallied with a pair of two-out RBI singles by Jason Lane and Donnie Murphy to knot the game at 4-4.

The Grizzlies came back to plate four runs against Z's closer Kasey Olenberger (0-1), who had not allowed a run in 7 2/3 innings at home this season. Joe Borchard's RBI double put Fresno ahead, and Ben Copeland followed with a two-run double.

Lane belted his third home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Rick VandenHurk pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on seven hits and four walks while striking out six. He exited after allowing a two-run homer to Steve Holm in the sixth.

Waldis Joaquin picked up his first win of the season, despite allowing three hits and suffering a blown save in 1 2/3 innings.

The two teams continue their four-game tilt tomorrow evening from Zephyr Field. Zephyr Ryan Tucker (0-3, 5.61) is scheduled to take the bump against southpaw Madison Bumgarner (1-1, 4.97) for Fresno.
