Round Rock Express News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Oswaldo Navarro's two-run double capped a four-run second inning, and the Round Rock Express never looked back en route to a 10-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees in Tuesday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at Spring Mobile Park. The Express (13-19) matched their largest margin of victory this season, reaching double figures in runs for only the second time this season. The Bees (15-16) lost consecutive games for the first time since April 17.
Round Rock opened the second inning with three consecutive hits, the last of which was Drew Locke's two-run single. It was Locke's first RBI since April 22 and just his second hit in 29 at bats with runners in scoring position this season. After a Jason Bourgeois single, Navarro doubled to center, scoring both runners.
The Express pushed their lead to 7-0 with two runs in the third and another in the fourth before Salt Lake finally dented the scoreboard with a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth. Navarro added another two-run single to conclude a three-run seventh and the scoring for Round Rock. Salt Lake scrapped for a run on three hits in the ninth.
Roy Corcoran (1-5) snapped a five-game losing streak while making just his fifth start in 312 career appearances. Corcoran, who suffered a tough-luck loss last week against Nashville after allowing one run on one hit in 5.0 innings, was blessed with run support in this game but still was sharp. He allowed one run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Corcoran has allowed three runs in 17.1 innings over his last seven outings, holding opposing batters to a .135 average (8-for-59) in that time.
Yorman Bazardo allowed one run on one hit and no walks with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings. T.J. Burton recorded the game's final two outs, allowing two hits.
Salt Lake starter Sean O'Sullivan (3-3) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
Drew Meyer delivered a two-out RBI single in the third, and Jason Bourgeois reached on a Salt Lake error to allow the second run of the inning to score. The Express got a run in the fourth when Jason Castro grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.
Mark Trumbow's one-out RBI double got the Bees on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Salt Lake's only other run came on Cory Aldridge's one-out RBI single in the ninth.
Navarro finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a walk, while Bourgeois went 3-for-6 and recorded his first stolen base in 11 games. Castro and Chris Johnson had two hits each, while Locke and Castro each scored three runs.
Aldridge had the lone multiple-hit game for the Bees, going 2-for-4.
Round Rock and Salt Lake continue the four-game series Wednesday with a 7:35 p.m. CDT first pitch at Spring Mobile Park. It will be dueling southpaws as Andy Van Hekken (1-3, 4.13 ERA) toes the slab for the Express. Will Smith (2-2, 4.58 ERA) was recently called up from Advanced-A Rancho Cucamonga and makes his first start for the Bees.
