BILLINGS, MONT - The Missoula Osprey spent the better part of Thursday night here at Dehler Park trying to solve the Billings Mustangs pitching staff. Unfortunately, the puzzle remained unsolved.
Robert Maddux drove in a pair of runs and five pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Mustangs blanked the Osprey, 3-0.
The Mustangs scored a two-out run off of Osprey starter Yiomer Camacho in the bottom of the first, thanks to a Maddux run-scoring double, and added another tally in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-0 lead. While three Billings pitches were keeping the Missoula bats quiet, the Mustangs added a run in the bottom of the eighth, on a Maddux sacrifice fly, for a 3-0 lead.
Socrates Brito collected two of the three Missoula hits, while Yosbel Gutierrez added a single to account for the Osprey offense. Brito also collected an impressive outfield assist in the bottom of the fifth inning, throwing out Billings catcher Wagner Gomez, who was trying to run from first to third on a single to right field.
Camacho pitched well in his 4 2/3 innings of work, but left with an apparent leg injury after colliding with Mustangs second baseman Sammy Diaz on a play at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mike Blake came on in relief and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, while Michael Rivera pitched the eighth inning for Missoula.
The Osprey will open their home schedule on Friday, beginning a three-game series with the Great Falls Voyagers at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Right-hander Jared Ray gets the call for the Osprey, while the Voyagers have not yet announced their starter.
Tickets are available now at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 North Higgins in Downtown Missoula, online at MissoulaOsprey.com and by phone (406) 543-3300.
