Winnipeg, MBâ Offensive lineman Orlando Bobo is back with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The football club added Bobo to its practice roster today. He is expected to be activated for this Thursday's game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Canad Inns Stadium.
Bobo (6-3, 320, Northeast Louisiana (Louisiana-Monroe) '95, DOB: Feb. 9, 1974 in West Point, MS) rejoins Winnipeg after attending the Blue Bombers training camp earlier this year.
Bobo is an experienced NFL veteran who can play all positions along the offensive line. He is a versatile offensive lineman. He is very strong, has good feet and is an extremely talented run blocker.
THE CFL YEARS â WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS The Blue Bombers originally signed Bobo, Jan. 19, 2004. He attended the club's training camp and was asked to join the practice roster. He declined and was released.
THE NFL YEARS â MINNESOTA VIKINGS, CLEVELAND BROWNS & BALTIMORE RAVENS Bobo played six years in the NFL with three teams: the Minnesota Vikings, the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.
Bobo originally signed with the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent Aug. 20, 1996. He made the club out of training camp and spent the entire 1996 season on the practice roster.
He played in six regular-season games and two playoff contests with the Vikes in 1997. He played mostly on special teams that year, seeing action with the field goal and PAT units.
Bobo played four games with Minnesota in 1998 before a leg injury forced him to the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
During his time with the Vikes, Bobo became very involved with the community. He took part in Boys & Girls Club's Minneapolis-Chicago Exchange Program. He also established a bimonthly visitation program at the St. Paul Area Learning Centre called Bobo's Kids.
The Cleveland Browns selected Bobo with the 27th pick overall in the 1999 NFL Expansion Draft, Feb. 9, 1999. He appeared in nine games for the Browns that year. He made his first career NFL start after teammate Orlando Brown suffered a serious eye injury by being hit with a referee's penalty flag.
Bobo also had a pass reception for three yards after quarterback Ty Detmer's throw was deflected at the line of scrimmage.
The Baltimore Ravens liked was they saw in Bobo and signed him to a free agent contract Apr. 5, 2000. He played in seven regular-season games for Baltimore that year as well as the Ravens victory in Super Bowl XXXV (Baltimore vs. New York Giants @ Tampa Bay, Jan. 28, 2000).
Bobo dressed for 12 games as a Raven in 2001. He had one fumble recovery for Baltimore that year.
The Vikings signed Bobo as a free agent Aug. 16, 2002. He attended Minnesota's training camp but was released Sept. 1, 2002.
THE COLLEGE YEARS â NORTHEAST LOUISIANA INDIANS Bobo played two seasons of college football for the Northeast Louisiana Indians. Bobo started at three different positions along the O-line during his two-year career.
He won First-Team All-Independent Conference All-Star honors as a senior and Third-Team All-Independent Conference All-Star honors as a junior. He was named the team's best offensive lineman in 1995.
THE JUNIOR COLLEGE YEARS â EAST MISSISSIPPI LIONS Bobo played two years of junior college football with East Mississippi Community College. As a member of the Lions, Bobo was a Second-Team All- American. Scouting services rated him as one of the top eight junior college linemen.
THE HIGH-SCHOOL YEARS â WEST POINT HIGH SCHOOL Bobo went to East Mississippi after playing high-school football for West Point High School in West Point, Mississippi. He was a Second-Team All-State selection as a senior.
