
Melvin Bradley joins Blue Bombers

Winnipeg, MBâ The Winnipeg Blue Bombers strengthened their defensive line today with the addition of defensive tackle Melvin Bradley to the practice roster.
Bradley (6-2, 270, Arkansas '98, DOB: Aug. 15, 1976 in Helena, AR) will fill the void left by injured defensive tackle Denny Fortney. Bradley is expected to be activated for the Bombers game this Thursday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Canad Inns Stadium.
Bradley is a CFL and NFL veteran who has 16 CFL regular-season games under his belt. He comes to Winnipeg after most recently playing for the Calgary Stampeders.
THE CFL YEARS â CALGARY STAMPEDERS â 2004 Bradley attended the Stamps' 2004 training camp but was released.
THE CFL YEARS â CALGARY STAMPEDERS â 2003 Bradley missed the entire 2003 season with an injury.
THE CFL YEARS â CALGARY STAMPEDERS â 2002 Bradley joined the Stampeders after being released by the Edmonton Eskimos. He appeared in 16 games for Calgary, recording 54 defensive tackles, five quarterback sacks, four pass knockdowns and two tackles for a loss of two yards.
THE CFL YEARS â EDMONTON ESKIMOS â 2002 Bradley attended the Edmonton Eskimos training camp in 2002 but was released.
THE NFL-EUROPE YEARS â RHEIN FIRE â 2000 The Arizona Cardinals assigned Bradley to Rhine Fire of NFL-Europe in 2000.
THE NFL YEARS â ARIZONA CARDINALS â 1999-2000 The Arizona Cardinals selected Bradley in the 6th Round (202nd Overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played two games for the Cardinals in 1999 after spending the first 13 weeks of the season on the team's practice roster.
Following his assignment to NFL-Europe, Bradley rejoined the Cards but was placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the 2000 NFL campaign. The Cards released him Nov. 7, 2000.
THE COLLEGE YEARS â ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS Bradley played four years of college football for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He had an outstanding college career, becoming the first Razorback lineman to lead the school in defensive tackles for two consecutive seasons.
He played in 31 games over his four years and started 22 consecutive games during one stretch. He made 160 career defensive tackles and finished his career tied for 9th place in school's all-time sack list.
As a senior in 1998, Bradley made the SEC Coaches First-Team All-Star side and the Associated Press Second-Team All-Star side. He had 56 defensive tackles, seven tackles for a loss of 35 yards, four quarterback sacks for 28 yards lost, an interception return for 11 yards and a forced fumble.
Bradley led the school in defensive tackles with 71 during his junior season of 1997. It marked the second-straight year he led the school in tackles. He had seven tackles for a loss of 31 yards, four quarterback sacks for 17 yards lost, four fumble returns and two forced fumbles.
As a sophomore, Bradley led the school with 89 defensive tackles â the first Razorback down lineman to do so since Billy Ray Smith in 1981. He had 14 tackles for a loss of 60 yards, seven quarterback sacks for 47 yards lost, two pass knockdowns and a forced fumble.
In his rookie season, he played in three games, making one defensive tackle and a tackle for a loss of four yards.
THE HIGH-SCHOOL YEARS â BARTON BEARS Bradley attended Barton High School in Barton, Arkansas. He was a two-time All-State & All-District All-Star choice. He led the Bears to the Arkansas State Championship in his senior year, recording 120 defensive tackles.
At Barton, Bradley was also a two-time All-District selection in basketball and once in track-and-field.
