Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

The Owlz lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Lindquist Field, falling 6-0 in game one and 7-3 in game two.

Orem came into Sunday afternoon's doubleheader with a chance to tie Ogden for first place in the division, but the Raptors got some stellar pitching from Lindsey Caughel and Ross Stripling to help them win both games.

In game one, Caughel fired a 4-hit shutout, going all seven innings and shutting down the Owlz offense. It was a pitcher's duel until the 5th inning when the Raptors scored six runs off of Jairo Diaz.

Diaz was fantastic for his first four innings of work in game one, but ran into some trouble when he allowed two doubles and then two walks to four of the first five batters he faced. He also hit a batter with the bases loaded and gave up a two-run single to give the Raptors a lead they would not give up.

In game two of the doubleheader, Ogden got off to a great start, scoring three runs off of Brandon Efferson. Efferson allowed a two-run single to Paul Hoenecke and a RBI single to Kevin Thompson. Efferson ended up giving up four runs in his three innings of work.

Orem fell behind 4-1, but came within one run in the top of the 5th thanks to a two-run home run by Wade Hinkle, his 15th of the season. However, Ogden scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the 5th to run away with the win.

The Owlz will return home tomorrow, September 3rd, to take on the Raptors at a special start time of 6:05 PM (MST). There will be FIREWORKS after the game! Come celebrate Labor Day at the Home of the Owlz and help cheer on the boys as they make their final push towards the Pioneer League Playoffs!
