BILLINGS, MONT. - The Missoula Osprey received a two-homer, four-RBI performance by Alex Glenn, but could not mount much more offense as the Billings Mustangs roared to a 12-5 win on Saturday here at Dehler Park in front of 3,071 fans.
The loss sends the Osprey (19-14, 37-34) back into a tie with the Mustangs (19-14, 40-31) for first place in the Pioneer League North Division standings.
Glenn put the Osprey on the board first, breaking a scoreless tie with a two-run shot to right-center field and closed out the scoring with a two-run shot to right field in the top of the eighth inning. The left fielder also added a single, giving him a three-hit night. Glenn is the 28th former Osprey to hit two or more home runs in a game. It was the 35th time in Osprey history a Missoula player had a mult-homer game.
Ross Gerdeman (4-5) struggled with his control throughout the night, allowing six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings pitched, while hitting three batters and surrendering eight runs, six of which were earned. Mike Blake gave up four runs on a hit, four walks and two hit batsmen in just 2/3 of an inning, while Patrick Smith pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering two hits while striking out two batters.
Breland Almadova had two hits and two runs scored for Missoula, who finished with 10 hits on the night. Evan Marzilli added a pair of hits, Jake Lamb added a hit and a RBI and Pedro Ruiz joined Socrates Brito with a hit apiece.
The Osprey and Mustangs will close out their key four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Dehler Park. The Osprey will start right-hander Chris Pack, while the Mustangs will counter with left-hander Joel Bender.
The Osprey will come home for their final two games of the 2012 regular season against the Billings Mustangs on September 5-6. Tickets are available now at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 North Higgins in Downtown Missoula, online at MissoulaOsprey.com and by phone (406) 543-3300.
