Opening Night Roster Announced
October 14, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH- Dayton Gems Head Coach and General Manager Brian Gratz announced today the Gems Opening Night 19-man roster for the start of the 2010-11 season this Saturday, October 16, against the Evansville IceMen at Hara Arena at 7:30 p.m.
After two weeks of stiff competition, 27 players became 19 earlier today when the final roster was turned into the Central Hockey League. The roster features a unique combination of skill, speed, physicality and hockey sense. Head Coach Brian Gratz had two weeks of skating and two preseason games to make his evaluations and along the way make some very tough decisions as well.
The 19-man roster is derived of 10 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders. It also features three rookies who will be experiencing their first full season of professional hockey, eight returning Gems from last year's squad and a bevy of talent that was brought in to help add some scoring ability up front and sound play on the back end, along with a proven tandem in goal.
"I am very excited about getting to this point with the team," said Gratz. "I believe that we will be competitive and entertaining for fans to watch and get behind this season."
"Brian has done a marvelous job of building our team around solid veterans and youthful energy," said Gems President Joe Greene. "This team features high-character individuals who will be striving to reach their full potential on a nightly basis."
