Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder finalized its opening night roster on Thursday after releasing goaltender Mark Sibbald.
The Thunder now has 19 players on its active roster heading into their 2010-11 season opener Friday at Tulsa. Central Hockey League teams with 19 players must designate a healthy scratch each night.
Head Coach Kevin McClelland also selected his on-ice leadership, announcing defenseman Daniel Tetrault as team captain and forwards Lance Galbraith and Matt Huabbauer as alternates.
"I'm going with 'Tetsy' who I'm very familiar with", said McClelland. "I tried recruiting him in Mississippi and I like the way he carries himself. One of my main focuses in camp was to see how guys handle themselves around the other guys, so it was an easy decision to make him captain of our hockey club."
Tetrault spent the last two seasons as an all-star defenseman for the IHL's Port Huron Icehawks. The Thunder's new captain played for Wichita from 2005-2008 where he served as an alternate.
A 10-year veteran, Galbraith has racked up at least 33 points and 187 penalty minutes in eight consecutive seasons. Hubbauer has scored 21 or more goals each of the last three years and enters his eighth overall in professional hockey.
