Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Thursday that they have waived three players from training camp, reducing their opening night roster to 20.
Trimmed from the roster were defenseman Brad Pawlowski and forwards Joe Bluhm and Brant Marple. All three appeared in each of the two preseason games (1-1-0-0). Pawlowski had no points and seven penalty minutes. Bluhm registered a goal and an assist while Marple had no points and two penalty minutes. The Fort Wayne roster of 20 includes 10 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Players returning for another run at the cup are Sean O'Connor (RW), Leo Thomas (C), P.C. Drouin (LW), Kaleigh Schrock (RW), Guy Dupuis (D), Danko Mironovic (D), Keith Rodger (D), Brandon Warner (D), Frankie DeAngelis (D), Bobby Phillips (D) and Nick Boucher (G).
Returning for a run at their fourth straight Fort Wayne championship are coach Al Sims, Boucher, Drouin, Dupuis and Warner. Mironovic, O'Connor, Rodger and Thomas are aiming for their third straight title.
Saturday marks the beginning of the Komets' 59th season in Fort Wayne as the reigning IHL Turner Cup Champs will host last year's Central Hockey League Champion Rapid City Rush at 7:30pm to launch Fort Wayne's inaugural season in the CHL. The Komets begin their quest for a fourth consecutive crown after collecting three straight titles as a member of the International Hockey League.
The Komets have won four straight season openers and while riding a six-game home opener winning streak, the Komets are unbeaten in regulation in 15 consecutive home opening games (13-0-2).
All games broadcast during 2010-11 will be aired on News Talk 1190 WOWO and webcast at www.komets.com at Xfinity KometCast with Bob Chase celebrating his 58th season behind the Komet microphone.
