Opening Homestand Includes Five Dates

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Indianapolis Indians return to Victory Field Thursday for the first homestand of the season, hosting the Norfolk Tides and the Richmond Braves. The Indians have won 10 straight home openers including all seven at Victory Field. Norfolk, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, visits Indianapolis Thursday. The Tribe swept a pair of one-run games at Norfolk to start the season, April 8-9.

Richmond visits Victory Field for a four-day, four-game series starting on Friday. The Braves and Indians split their opening series at The Diamond in Richmond before the final two games of the series were washed out by rain this week. The games will be replayed as part of two doubleheaders in Richmond, July 23 and 24. Game times will be announced at a later date.

Opening Day-Thursday at 2 p.m. vs. Norfolk Tides

A full slate of fun is scheduled for Thursday, the third consecutive home opener played in the afternoon at Victory Field. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the first 4,000 fans will receive a 2004 schedule courtesy of Miller, The Indianapolis Star, Fox 59, Marsh and Pepsi. Indians players, stationed at the center field gate, will personally welcome fans back to Victory Field.

Governor Joe Kernan, Indianapolis Chief Deputy Mayor Michael O'Connor and Danville High School Athletic Director Pete Huse will throw out ceremonial pitches. Professor Roy Samuelsen from Indiana University will sing the national anthem.

Hoosier Lottery Director Jack Ross will be joined by Hoosier Millionaire talent Tony Lamont, Catt Sadler and Cody Stark to lead the fans in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Lamont, Sadler and Stark will be available for autographs during the game.

Fans holding a Fox Fan Club card may purchase two tickets for the price of one at the Victory Field box office day of game. In addition, the first 25 fans visiting the box office after 8:00 a.m. will receive a free pair of tickets.

Schedule Magnet Night-Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Richmond Braves

A four day, four-game series with the Braves opens Friday. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the first 4,000 fans will receive a schedule magnet courtesy of Miller, The Indianapolis Star, Marsh and Pepsi. Robert Whiting, author of the classic You Gotta Have Wa, will visit Victory Field as part of a 20-city tour to promote his new book, The Meaning of Ichiro. Mr. Whiting will lead the fans in the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch, sponsored by the Hoosier Lottery.

Schedule Magnet/Mascot Mania Day-Saturday at 2 p.m. vs Richmond Braves

Day baseball returns on Saturday. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the first 4,000 fans will receive a schedule magnet courtesy of Miller, The Indianapolis Star, Marsh and Pepsi. Fans will receive a two-for-one ticket discount with receipt of an Indianapolis Star promotional coupon. As many as ten local mascots, including Fielding the Mouse (Marsh) will greet fans at entry gates to Victory Field and will sign autographs in the Left Field Picnic Area during the 4th inning. In addtion, ATA employees will receive a two-for-one ticket discount when they show their ID badge at the box office. Nigel, on-air talent for WNOU Radio, 93.1 FM, will lead the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", sponsored by the Hoosier Lottery.

Indians Schedule T-Shirt Day-Sunday at 2 p.m. vs. Richmond Braves

Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the first 4,000 fans will receive an Indians schedule t-shirt courtesy of Kleenit and Pepsi. Wil Hampton, news and sports anchor for WRTV-6 will lead the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", sponsored by the Hoosier Lottery.

Baseball In Education Day-Monday at 12 p.m. vs. Richmond Braves

Gates open at 10:30 a.m. The Central Indiana Fire Department Public Educators will present a pre-game program in the right field bleachers from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for students participating in the Indians' Baseball In Education program.
