One Night After Getting No-Hit, Avalanche Score 20 Runs on 20 Hits

Tuesday night, thre Frederick Keys' pitchers no-hit the Salem Avalanche. Tonight, the Avalanche got enough hits and runs for both games. Salem scored 20 runs on 20 hits and blew out Frederick 20-9.

The Keys had starter Pedro Beato on the hill. He lasted just four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits. The knock-out blow was a two-run homer from Koby Clemens in the top of the fifth inning. The fireworks really started going off after Beato's exit.

Scott Mueller entered and allowed six runs, all earned, in just 0.1 of an inning pitched. The big blows against Mueller were a two-run double from Tim Torres, followed by a two-run homer off the bat of Mark Ori. When it was all said and done, Salem sent 12 to the plate in the fifth and scored eight runs.

Salem continued to beat up on Frederick relievers as the game went on. Robert Neigebauer allowed three runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings. Brett Bordes entered in the eighth and allowed five runs, all earned, in just 0.1 of an inning. Ryan Ouellette closed out the game for the Keys, allowing one earned in 1.2 innings.

Frederick also struggled in the field, making a season-high five errors. Just three of the runs scored, however, were unearned.

The Keys did hit the ball well. Chris Vinyard was the offensive star for the Keys. He went 3-3 with two homers, including a grand slam, and seven runs batted in. Brandon Snyder also had three hits in the huge loss.

Right-hander Chad Wagler got the win for Salem. He threw six innings and allowed three runs on five hits, improving his record to 3-2. Beato took the loss dropping to 4-7.

The 20 runs the Avalanche scored were the most they've ever scored against Frederick in the history of this series. The previous high was 19.
