On Lockwood Walk Off, Renegades Win Seventh Straight

Wappingers Falls, NY - Hunter Lockwood sent a crowd of 5,390 home happy Saturday night, with a walk-off homerun over the left-field wall to push the Renegades past the Staten Island Yankees 4-3. The win brings the Renegades to 15-5 overall, and 3-0 in the month of July. Hudson Valley owns the best record in the New York-Penn League and first place in the McNamara division.
Lockwood provided his own Fourth of July weekend fireworks, going 3-4 at the plate with a double and his fourth homer of the season. His second walk off homerun in 2014.
Renegades' starting pitcher D.J. Slayton would put Hudson Valley in a winning position, tossing six scoreless innings while striking out seven Yankee batters.
The Renegade offense came to life in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Coty Blanchard reached on an error and then swiped second. Hudson Valley second baseman Jace Conrad would follow with an RBI double to score Blanchard, giving the Renegades a one run lead.
After a scoreless top of the seventh, the Renegades added to their lead in the bottom half of the inning. Bralin Jackson led things off with a single, and moved to second on a Wilmer Dominguez ground out. Clayton Henning came through, singling to left field and scoring the speedy Jackson. That would double the Hudson Valley's lead to 2-0.
Staten Island got one back in the top of the eighth, as Jose Javier walked and advanced to second on throwing error. That led to a Ty McFarland double to left field, scoring Javier and trimming the Hudson Valley lead to one.
The Renegades would score two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jace Conrad continued his excellent day, leading off with a bunt single. He moved to third on a Casey Gillaspie single, and then scored on a wild pitch. Conrad finished the day 3-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. His run would give the Renegades a 3-1 lead after eight.
Staten Island tied the game at three with runs from Luis Torrens and Daniel Lopez in the top of the ninth inning. After the Renegades were held scoreless in the bottom of the 9th, it was time for free baseball at Dutchess Stadium. The fifth extra-inning contest this season in the Renegades home ballpark.
Gerardo Reyes earned his first victory of the season, going two innings in relief. The righty loaded the bases to start the tenth inning, but retired the next three batters he faced to escape with no damage done. That would help set the scene for Hunter Lockwood in the bottom of the tenth.
