
Jimenez Closes the Door on the Lake Monsters

Norwich, CT "" The Connecticut Tigers (10-11) defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters (8-13) by a score of 4-2 Saturday night at Dodd Stadium. The Tigers bullpen was the difference in the win over Vermont. As a team the Tigers used three relief pitchers that pitched seven scoreless innings while giving up three hits and struck out seven batters.
Tigers RHP Johan Belisario (2-0) picked up his second win of the season in a relief role as he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out two. RHP Joe Jimenez (S, 2) picked up his second save of the season as he pitched a perfect ninth inning and struck out one batter. In his Connecticut debut, starter RHP AJ Ladwig (0-0) pitched two innings while allowing two runs on three hits and struck out four batters. As a team the pitchers used for Connecticut struck out 11 Lake Monster batters.
The Tigers grabbed offensive production from several players in the game. SS Joey Pankake (1-4) had the biggest at bat in the game as he hit an RBI groundout that scored LF Rashad Brown (0-4) as it put the Tigers in front at 3-2. The run scored proved to be the game winning run of the night. C Tim Remes (1-4) hit into two double plays in the win, but got redemption in the eighth inning as he delivered an insurance RBI single that scored 3B Steven Fuentes (3-4) which gave the Tigers a lead at 4-2. 2B Domingo Leyba (3-4) put forth a productive night as he had three hits including a double and a run scored. RF Mike Gerber (1-4) extended his hit streak to 11 games. Brown's hit streak came to an end at eight games.
In Game 1 of the doubleheader tomorrow, Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (2-1, 1.82) is slated to face Vermont's RHP AJ Burke (1-0, 1.96). In Game 2, Tigers RHP Spencer Turnball (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face RHP Corey Miller (0-0, 0.00). Tomorrow do not miss out on the continuation of the Fourth of July Weekend presented by Navy Federal Credit Union! The gates will open at 2:30 p.m. for a very special Sunday Funday. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free slice of apple pie. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m. Each game will be a seven inning contest with a 30 minute break between. Following the second game of the doubleheader will be Kids Run The Bases presented by Ben & Jerry's and Have a Catch presented by Falvey's and ROXY 100.9 FM.
