Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (19-22) snapped a three-game losing streak and won their third straight game at Werner Park as they took the series opener with the Reno Aces (18-22) by a score of 9-6. Omaha was coming off a roadtrip in which they only managed 13 total runs in nine games.

After not getting a hit in the first three innings off former Storm Chasers pitcher Justin Marks, the Omaha offense exploded for five runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Jose Martinez and a two-out, three-run homer by Matt Fields. Martinez leads Omaha with 21 RBI on the year, and the three RBI for Fields was a season high for the slugger. The Storm Chasers added four more runs over the next three innings, with Cheslor Cuthbert and MLB Rehabber Erik Kratz both driving in two.

The nine runs in that five-inning stretch from the fourth through the eighth matched the output by the Storm Chasers offense in the previous 64 innings (61 innings to end the roadtrip and the first three innings of the game). The 1-through-3 batters of Whit Merrifield, Rey Fuentes and Cuthbert combined for seven hits and six runs scored in the game. In their last three home games, Omaha has scored 29 runs in 20 innings at bat.

Fuentes not only collected three hits but also stole three bases, which put him in position for all three of his runs. The three steals were a season high for any Storm Chasers player, and he leads the team with eight swipes this season. Omaha is now 10-7 at home this year, opposed to their 9-15 record on the road.

The Storm Chasers will look to win a fourth straight home game as they send out LHP John Lamb (3-1, 2.89 ERA) to face off with Reno RHP Caleb Clay (4-1, 4.13 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
