TEAM NOTES
Forward Ola Kamara scored his 33rd MLS career-goal in today's match against Orlando City SC, tying Guillermo Barros Schelotto for eighth-place in Crew SC's list of all-time regular-season goal scorers. Kamara is now behind only Jeff Cunningham (64 goals), Brian McBride (62 goals), Federico Higuain (48 goals), Stern John (44 goals), Edson Buddle (42 goals), Justin Meram (37 goals) and Eddie Gaven (35 goals). Since joining Crew SC in 2016, Ola Kamara has made 58 regular-season appearances (52 starts), scoring 33 goals and providing five assists.
With his goal against Orlando City SC in today's match, Ola Kamara set his new regular-season career-high of 17 goals. Kamara's goal occurred in the 66th minute, when he received a pass from Hector Jimenez which he then sent past Lions' goalkeeper Joe Bendik. Kamara's 17 strikes this season tie him with Brian McBride for fourth place on Crew SC's list of most goals scored in a single regular-season. Additionally, Kamara's goal against Orlando means that he has scored against 15 different opponents in the 2017 MLS season, tying Mike Magee's record of most teams scored against in a single regular season.
Midfielder Federico Higuain registered his 12th assist of the 2017 MLS regular season in today's match against Orlando City SC as he set up Ola Kamara's 66th-minute goal. Higuain's helper proved to be the game-winning assist, and he is now tied with Robert Warzycha for first place on Crew SC's list of all-time regular-season game-winning assists, with 16 helpers. In 2017, Higuain has made 24 regular-season appearances (all starts), registering nine goals and 12 assists.
Hector Jimenez provided the assist on Ola Kamara's 66th-minute game-winning goal. Jimenez received a through ball from Federico Higuain which he then crossed into the box for Ola Kamara to finish. In addition to providing the assist, Jimenez played the entire 90 minutes and finished the match with 59 touches, 46 passes and two tackles. In 2017, Jimenez has made 20 appearances (16 starts) while registering three assists.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen registered his 16th regular-season win of 2017 and his ninth regular-season shutout of the year in tonight's match against Orlando City SC. With the clean sheet in tonight's match, Steffen becomes the first Crew SC goalkeeper to reach nine shutouts in his first year of MLS play, surpassing Steve Clark's previous record of eight shutouts which was achieved in 2014. In 2017, Steffen has made 32 appearances (all starts), registering 91 saves and nine shutouts.
With the win against Orlando City SC in today's match, Crew SC brings its all-time regular-season record against Orlando to 4-1-3. The Black & Gold are undefeated in their last five matches against the Lions with a record of 3-0-2 dating back to a 2-2 home draw at MAPFRE Stadium on July 23, 2016.
Today's win against Orlando City SC brought Crew SC's undefeated streak to nine matches (6-0-3), dating back to a 3-1 win against the Chicago Fire at MAPFRE Stadium on August 12. Over that span, Crew SC has outscored its opponents 17-8. Additionally, this is the longest stretch of consecutive regular-season matches that the Black & Gold has gone undefeated since Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter took over the team in 2014. Crew SC's previous longest undefeated streak in regular-season action under Berhalter was four matches, which was achieved on six separate occasions: two times in 2014, three times in 2013 and once in 2016.
With the win in today's match, Crew SC brings its 2017 regular-season record to 16-12-5, which ties the club for second-most wins in MLS, behind only Toronto FC (20 wins). Up next, Crew SC travels to take on New York City FC at Citi Field on Sunday, October 22 (4:00 p.m. ET / The CW Columbus, Spectrum Sports, BCSN2, CD102.5 FM, La Mega 103.1 FM, English radio stream available on ColumbusCrewSC.com).
