Oklahoma City Comets News Release

LAST GAMES: Oklahoma lost both games of a doubleheader against Omaha, falling 3-0 and 2-1. Luis Mendoza and Elizardo Ramirez took the losses for the RedHawks, while Ben Harrison's solo home run in the nightcap provided the only offensive tally of the day. Oklahoma finished the season series 7-9 against Omaha, and went 4-4 in four separate doubleheaders against the Royals.

HOMESTAND STATS: The RedHawks hit .259 during the four-game split with Omaha and outscored the Royals 12-9. Oklahoma knocked seven extra base hits during the series, including four doubles in Sunday's 7-3 win. RedHawks starters have an ERA of 2.57 over the last four games, while the bullpen allowed just one unearned run on eight hits over 11 innings of work.

STOPPED AT 13:

Ryan Roberts went 0-2 with a walk in the first game of the doubleheader and saw his hitting streak snapped at 13 consecutive games. Roberts hit .365 during the streak, which lasted from August 4 through August 17. It was the third longest by any RedHawk this season, one shy of Chris Davis' 14 game streak and two behind Nelson Cruz and Taylor Teagarden's 15 game streaks. Roberts extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a single in the second game.

HUNTER BACK WITH REDHAWKS:

Texas optioned Tommy Hunter to Oklahoma Saturday when they recalled Kameron Loe. Hunter went 0-2 with a 16.36 ERA over three starts for the Rangers after having his contract purchased on August 1. The right-hander has pitched at all four levels of baseball this season and has a composite record of 11-10 with a 4.47 ERA over 155 innings.

2008 VERSUS IOWA:

Oklahoma is hitting .235 against Iowa this season after 11 games with 87 hits in 371 at bats. The Cubs are hitting .299 against the RedHawks with 114 hits in 351 at bats. Iowa has outscored Oklahoma 56-50 over the season series, but 23 of those runs were tallied over two games in Oklahoma City in early July.

WITHOUT CRUZ:

Oklahoma dropped to 15-19 in games when Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup. Cruz is on the RedHawks disabled list with a strained left quad. The outfielder is still among the Minor League leaders in several major offensive categories, including home runs (2nd), runs batted in (tied for 8th), and runs scored (tied for 5th), despite having not played since August 1. The RedHawks are 7-10 since Cruz was placed on the disabled list.

IOWA AT A GLANCE:

The I-Cubs enter play with an eight game lead over Memphis with 13 games remaining. Iowa had its July 25 series finale at Tucson canceled due to rain... Iowa's magic number is 6... The Cubs have the fifth most errors in the league with 111.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:

Texas lost 11-3 to Detroit... Neftali Feliz and Trey Hodges combined to throw a rain-shortened perfect game in Frisco's 7-0 win at San Antonio... Bakersfield lost 4-1 to Stockton... Clinton edged Peoria 5-4 in ten innings... Spokane erupted in a 13-3 win over Salem-Keizer.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

Oklahoma's magic number is 6. Any combination of RedHawk wins and New Orleans losses that add up to six will clinch the American South Division... RedHawk pitchers have committed 24 of Oklahoma's 116 errors. Those 24 errors have come in 214 total chances.

ON THE AIR:

Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand.
