Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - On Saturday, August 23rd the Fresno Grizzlies will partner with the American Lung Association of California, the San Joaquin Valley Air District, and PG&E to launch the FLAG Program at Chukchansi Park. The night will introduce Central Valley residents to a new plan that ensures members of the Fresno community are aware of potentially dangerous air quality conditions.

The American Lung Association of California Air Quality FLAG program will communicate the daily air quality pollution risks by utilizing colored flags corresponding to the Air Quality Index. Local businesses are being asked to participate and display the flags. Already companies such as Anthem Blue Cross, First 5 Madera County, and the National Parks Conservation Association are on board.

All fans at Chukchansi Park on Saturday will receive a magnet detailing the color coding of the FLAG program. During that night's game between the Grizzlies and River Cats, the actual flags will be displayed in different spots throughout the ballpark.

"We have partnered with the San Joaquin Valley Air District in the past, and are excited to be able to help educate Central Valley residents about this new program that should create healthier lives," said Grizzlies Executive Vice President Mike Maiorana. "As a primary gathering place for the Fresno community, we hope every fan leaves that night with some knowledge of the FLAG plan and passes it along."

Businesses that agree to participate in the Air Quality FLAG program before Friday, August 22nd will receive two complimentary tickets to the game and kick-off picnic where they will be given their flags. In addition, the American Lung Association has created a voucher, available at FresnoGrizzlies.com, with which fans can purchase a ticket and ensure that $1 of the proceeds goes to juvenile asthma research.
