Oklahoma City Comets News Release

LAST GAME: Oklahoma rallied for runs in the seventh and eighth innings to beat Las Vegas 4-3 last night and avoid being swept for the first time this season. Jason Ellison hit a ground-rule double in the seventh and scored on a single by Chris Shelton to tie the game at three. In the eighth, Nick Trzesniak led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly by Casey Benjamin for the eventual winning run. Joaquin Benoit, with Oklahoma on a Major League rehab assignment, pitched two scoreless innings for the win and Wes Littleton picked up his sixth save.

UNBELIEVABLY BULLISH: Oklahoma's bullpen did not allow any runs during the series against the 51s. RedHawk relievers pitched 14 scoreless innings during the set against Las Vegas, and have thrown 17 straight frames without allowing a run dating back to the ninth inning on July 29 at Colorado Springs.

CRUZ OUT:

Nelson Cruz was placed on the Disabled List yesterday with a strained left quad. Cruz was injured on Friday attempting to steal second base in the fifth inning. The RedHawks outfielder will make his first trip to the DL this season despite missing action earlier this season with a minor arm injury. The RedHawks have five players on the Disabled List at this point in time, matching the total amount of players placed on the DL between April 3 and July 21. Oklahoma is 10-11 when Cruz is not in the starting lineup this season.

HARRISON GETS THE CALL:

Ben Harrison was promoted from Frisco earlier today. Harrison was selected in the seventh round of the 2004 draft out of the University of Florida and advanced to Double-A by the end of the 2006 season. Shoulder problems forced a late start to the 2007 season, which consisted of eight games for Frisco and 61 for Bakersfield. The outfielder began this season wit the RoughRiders, hitting .300 over 91 games with 17 home runs and 66 runs batted. The 25 year-old stole 18 bases in 20 attempts for Frisco this season.

NEW SAVES LEADER:

Wes Littleton notched his sixth save of the season in Saturday night's victory and passed Frank Francisco as the saves leader on the RedHawks staff. Francisco pitched in eight games for Oklahoma in April and went five-for-five in save opportunities before getting recalled by Texas on April 22. Littleton's six saves span eight chances. The right-hander earned wins after his two blown save opportunities.

TUCSON AT A GLANCE

: The Sidewinders have the PCL's second lowest winning percentage at .421 entering play tonight... Tucson's roster features nine players currently on the Arizona Diamondbacks 40-man roster... Max Scherzer is the highest rated prospect currently on the Sidewinders roster (#4 according to Baseball America entering 2008)... Tucson has lost two straight and five of their last ten.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:

Texas lost to Toronto 6-4... Frisco beat San Antonio 6-1... Bakersfield fell 12-3 to Lake Elsinore... Clinton doubled up Cedar Rapids 4-2... Spokane edged Yakima 5-4.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

The RedHawks pitching staff did not walk a batter last night, the 13th time this season Oklahoma has accomplished that feat. The RedHawks are 9-4 in games they do not issue any base on balls... Oklahoma snapped a four-game home losing streak last night, their second longest losing streak at home this season... Drew Meyer went 0-3 last night with a sacrifice bunt and saw his hitting streak stopped at six games.
