Hunter: Pitched seven shutout innings with 5 K and 0 BB in 7/12 win @ ROU (7-1 OKL)
LAST GAME: Memphis took an early 3-0 lead off Michael Ballard in his Triple-A debut, but Oklahoma answered with six runs and held on for a 6-5 win. Nelson Cruz hit a home run in his third straight game, the second time Cruz has accomplished the feat this season. Drew Meyer paced the RedHawks with three hits, while Chris Shelton and Ryan Roberts added two hits each. Oklahoma outhit Memphis for the third straight game this series and took a two wins to one lead heading into this afternoon's finale.
MEYER'S MASHING MOUNTS: Drew Meyer has four hits in five at bats during this series, and improved his lifetime average against Anthony Reyes to .600. The RedHawks utility man has six hits in ten career at bats against the Redbirds pitcher. Meyer extended his current hitting streak to five games to match his season high, and is also riding a 14 game on-base streak.
A GAME OF HORSE: Tommy Hunter and John Wasdin will take the hill today for their respective teams, and each has been a workhorse of sorts this season. Hunter is second in all over the minors with 133 innings pitched, including 22.1 with the RedHawks over three starts. Wasdin began the season in the Redbirds rotation, making five starts that spanned 28.2 innings, but has made his last 27 appearances from the bullpen, amassing 47 full innings of work.
LIGHTS OUT: Wes Littleton recorded the final four outs last night to earn his fourth save. Littleton has not allowed a run over his last seven appearances dating back to the June 29 doubleheader at Omaha.
OPTIONED:
German Duran was optioned to the RedHawks on Sunday as Texas activated Vincente Padilla from the 15-day disabled list. Duran hit .267 with two home runs and seven runs batted in over 16 games during his most recent stint with the Rangers after a June 8 recall. After two stints with Texas this season, the 23 year-old infielder is batting .225 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in through 43 games.
REDHAWK HOME RUN KING:
Nelson Cruz became the RedHawks all-time, single season home run leader on July 19 with a three home run game. Cruz's 31 home runs are the fifth-most tally in Oklahoma City Triple-A history, trailing Lee Stevens by one (1996) for fourth. Dave Roberts is the all-time Triple-A leader after hitting 38 in 1968.
MEMPHIS AT A GLANCE:
The Redbirds are one win shy of matching their 2007 season win total. Memphis went 56-88 last season, the lowest win total in franchise history... Josh Phelps hitting streak has reached seven games. The first baseman also extended his on-base streak to 15 games... David Freese has hit safely in his last six games... Joe Mather is second in the PCL in outfield assists, trailing Round Rock's Yordany Ramirez 13-11.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Casey Benjamin was placed on the disabled list earlier today, and German Duran will fill his spot on the roster... Nelson Cruz extended his hitting streak to six games last night, his fifth hitting streak of six games or more this season... Oklahoma is hitting .324 during the first three games of this four-game set, and has outscored Memphis 19-15... Former RedHawk Taylor Teagarden hit a solo home run last Sunday for his first Major League hit. The blast was the only offense in the Rangers 1-0 win at Minnesota.
