Game Two: RH Brandon Knight (1-0, 0.00) vs. RH Kameron Loe (2-3, 5.23)
LAST GAME: Oklahoma jumped on Tony Armas for an early 2-0 lead but could not make it stick, falling 5-3 to New Orleans in a rain-shortened, eight inning game. The Z's rallied for two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take the lead before the rain started to fall in full force. After nearly a two hour delay, the game was called. RedHawks reliever Yukinaga Maeda took the loss, while Armas earned his second win over Oklahoma this week. Jason Ellison and Chris Davis had two hits each, while Davis and John Mayberry combined to drive in all the RedHawks runs.
DOUBLE DUTY:
The RedHawks are playing in their first of two scheduled day-night doubleheaders this month, the first split doubleheaders in RedHawks history. Oklahoma is 2-2 in doubleheader games this season, having lost both games at home in a doubleheader May 8 against Sacramento and winning both games of a double dip on May 30th at Omaha.
STREAKING REDHAWKS:
The RedHawks have several players riding hitting or on-base streaks entering play today. Chris Davis is riding an eight game hitting streak, while Joaquin Arias has hit safely in seven straight. Ryan Roberts has been on base in 18 consecutive home games, while Jason Ellison is two games back at 16 consecutive home contests. Davis also has a 13-game overall on-base streak.
SERIES SPLIT:
After winning the first four games against New Orleans this season, Oklahoma has lost four straight. The RedHawks have outscored the Zephyr's 29-8 in those four wins, and have been outscored 19-11 in the four consecutive losses. The clubs have comparable averages against each other this season, with Oklahoma hitting .271 off Zephyrs pitching and New Orleans batting .264 against RedHawks hurlers. Oklahoma does own a lower ERA in the season matchup at 3.38 to 4.63.
NEW ORLEANS AT A GLANCE:
The Zephyrs are 8-4 this month after losing a club record 20 games during May (10-20)... New Orleans is playing in only its second doubleheader this season. The Zephyrs were swept by the Round Rock Express at home on May 29, falling 3-2 and 2-1... Jose Valentin had four of New Orleans ten hits last night. They were Valentin's first hits of the season as he recovers from knee surgery.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas lost 7-1 in New York against the Mets... Frisco rallied to beat Corpus Christi 8-7 with a run in the bottom of the ninth... Bakersfield fell 11-7 at home against San Jose... Clinton lost both games of a doubleheader to Wisconsin, falling 6-5 and 5-3.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks four game winning streak was their third longest stretch of the season. It marked the first time Oklahoma has won more than three in a row since they won five straight April 17 through 21 against Round Rock and Iowa, respectively... Kameron Loe will make his second RedHawks start this season, pitching game two of the doubleheader tonight. Loe spent a week with the Rangers in his second stint in the Majors this season, allowing six runs, none earned, on six hits over 3.2 innings. Loe will take Kason Gabbard's roster spot in between games today. Gabbard is scheduled to start for Texas in New York against the Mets and Pedro Martinez.
TIME CHANGE:
The RedHawks have announced a time change that differs from what is listed on pocket schedules and previously printed tickets. Oklahoma's game with Round Rock on Monday, June 23 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark is now a 7:05 pm first pitch.
