Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Oklahoma RedHawks beat the New Orleans Zephyrs 11-7 Saturday afternoon at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma never trailed during the game, and snapped a four-game losing streak to New Orleans with the win.

Oklahoma posted a five spot in the second inning off Zephyrs starter Willie Collazo. The RedHawks had six consecutive bases loaded at bats in the inning, a frame that featured two bases loaded walks and no extra base hits. New Orleans answered with four runs in the top of the third and one in the top of the fourth off Oklahoma starter Dustin Nippert to tie the game at five. That level scored was short-lived, however, as the RedHawks regained the lead in the home half of the fourth when Jason Ellison scored on a single by Nelson Cruz. John Mayberry hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-5, but the Zephyrs rallied to tie the game at seven in the seventh. RedHawks reliever Wes Littleton blew his second save of the week after allowing a pair of runs on three hits in the top of the seventh, but left the bases loaded with back-to-back strikeouts.

Oklahoma regained control in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs against Collazo and Zephyrs reliever Juan Padilla. The inning featured five base hits, including consecutive triples by Travis Metcalf and Nate Gold, the first time two RedHawks accomplished the feat since 2004 when Manny Alexander and Adrian Gonzalez hit back-to-back three-baggers. New Orleans added two runs in the nine, but got no closer than the final two run margin of victory. Ellison, Cruz, Mayberry, Joaquin Arias, and Chris Davis all had multi-hit games, while Cruz, Mayberry, and Gold drove in two runs apiece. Littleton (4-1) earned the win for Oklahoma, which sent Collazo to his fourth loss of the year.

The RedHawks and Zephyrs will play the second game of a day-night doubleheader at the Brick starting at 7:05 Saturday evening.
