The RedHawks held on to beat the Isotopes 5-4 last night in Albuquerque. Nelson Cruz hit his first home run of the season in the first inning, Oklahoma's seventh solo home run this season. The RedHawks added a run in the top of the third, but the Isotopes tagged starter Elizardo Ramirez for three runs in the home half to take the lead. Oklahoma posted a three-spot of their own in the sixth to stake Ramirez, who was pitching on three days rest, to the lead. Steve Rowe and Bill White would make the support stick, as the RedHawks earned their sixth consecutive victory.
IT HAS BEEN A WHILE:
The RedHawks six-game streak matches their best run of the 2007 season. Oklahoma won six consecutive games from June 26 through July 1, taking the final game of a series against Omaha at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, winning three straight at Iowa, and then succeeding in the first two games of a series in Omaha. This streak is the longest since the 2005 RedHawks won nine straight from August 2 through 12. The '05 Oklahoma squad also had a seven-game winning streak (5/28-6/03) and a 13-game losing streak (6/15-6/27).
500 CLUB:
Manager Bobby Jones notched his 500th Oklahoma City win with last evening's victory. Jones entered the year needing eight wins to reach the mark, and now holds a managerial mark of 500-512. He managed the 89ers in 1993 and 1994, and is in his second stint as skipper of the RedHawks. Jones is the winningest manager in Oklahoma City's Triple-A baseball history.
OTHER STREAKS:
Seven different RedHawks enter today on multiple game hitting streaks. German Duran is riding a RedHawk season-high five game streak, followed by Jason Ellison and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who, should they see action this afternoon, have a chance to extend their four-game runs.
ALBUQUERQUE AT A GLANCE:
Despite striking out nine RedHawks last night, the Isotopes 53 K's are the fewest in the PCL... Only three teams have scored less than Albuquerque (Iowa, Nashville, and Tacoma)... Tag Bozied and John Gall have seen action in every Isotopes game this season, the only players to do so...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas lost to Toronto 4-1... Frisco rallied to beat Springfield 4-2... Bakersfield fell 6-1 at San Jose... Clinton swept a home doubleheader with West Michigan, winning 8-7 and 5-2.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks hold the Pacific Coast League's sixth-best batting average at .273, and the sixth-best team ERA at 3.78... Two of the three RedHawks save opportunities this season have seen the tying run reach base (4/08 vs NAS & 4/12 @ ALB). Frank Francisco worked a perfect ninth on Friday with a three run lead... Robinson Tejeda was outrighted to the RedHawks by the Texas Rangers, but he is currently on the temporary inactive list... Sidney Ponson is day-to-day after leaving Friday's game in the third inning. The RedHawks starter was struck by a line drive off the bat of John Gall, and immediately left the ballgame. Ponson is slated to throw a side session on today, and his status will be determined after that. His next scheduled start is Wednesday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark against Round Rock.
ON THE AIR:
Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka.
