Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Fresno, CA - Max Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings but it wasn't enough as the Fresno Grizzlies scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim a 3-2 win over the Sidewinders on Saturday night. Tucson has now lost nine straight games since winning on opening night.

Jon Coutlangus came in to pitch the eighth and couldn't protect a 2-1 lead. Pinch hitter Jake Wald homered to tie the game at two and after back to back singles and a walk to load the bases, Coutlangus fired a wild pitch to the backstop to bring home the go-ahead run.

Scherzer allowed just three hits and an unearned run. He did not walk a batter and now has 18 strikeouts and just two walks in his two Triple-A starts. He has not allowed an earned run.

Tucson tied the game at one on Miguel Montero's RBI single in the sixth and took the lead on Wilkin Castillo's RBI double in the eighth.

The Sidewinders and Grizzlies play game three of their series tomorrow afternoon at Chukchansi Park. Right-hander Emiliano Fruto (0-1, 5.40) starts for Tucson against right-hander Nick Pereira (0-1, 9.00) for Fresno. First pitch is at 2:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 1:55.
