A Familiar Start: Oklahoma defeated Memphis 4-3 in ten innings last night, marking the third consecutive season the RedHawks beat the Redbirds on Opening Day. Ryan Roberts played the hero, knocking Jarrod Saltalamacchia home from second with a single in the home half of the tenth. Roberts finished with three hits to lead Oklahoma, while Nate Gold drove in a pair in the fifth, helping the RedHawks overcome an early three-run deficit.

K-MEN: Oklahoma pitchers combined to strikeout 11 over ten innings, including seven by starter Eric Hurley. The RedHawks 11 K's are tied with Tacoma after one game atop the PCL. Hurley's effort also places him at the top of the individual strikeout category, tied with Adam Bostick of New Orleans and Ryan Feierabend from Tacoma. ROSTER ADDITION: Nelson Cruz was outrighted to Oklahoma by Texas earlier today.

ROSTER ADDITION: Nelson Cruz was outrighted to Oklahoma by Texas earlier today. Cruz spent 44 games in a RedHawks' jersey in 2007, hitting .352 with 15 home runs and 45 runs batted in. He also appeared in 96 games for the Rangers, batting .235 with nine home runs and 34 batted in. Cruz was acquired by Texas along with Carlos Lee on July 28, 2006, in exchange for Kevin Mench, Laynce Nix, Francisco Cordero, and Julian Cordero. Cruz is not expected to be available for game action for a few days.

DEBUTS: Two players made their Triple-A debuts last night for Oklahoma. 2B German Duran walked once in five plate appearances and scored the RedHawks second run, while SS Casey Benjamin went hitless in four at bats. The middle infield combination did not have any double play opportunities in the game.

Down IN ORDER... Eventually: RedHawks pitchers saw no fewer than four batters per inning until Wes Littleton pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Littleton faced the minimum in the ninth, as did Kea Kometani in the extra frame.

Memphis AT A GLANCE: Colby Rasmus started the 2008 season on a roll with three hits in his first three at-bats, including a double on the first Triple-a pitch he saw from Oklahoma's Eric Hurley. Rasmus is the top rated prospect in the St. Louis organization according to Baseball America... Amaury Marti's two-run home was his first at Triple-A for the Cardinals. Marti hit 15 last season in the Mexican League for Minatitlan while on loan, and added six more while at Double-A Springfield to finish the year...

ONE YEAR AGO: The RedHawks bested the Redbirds on Opening Day last year, but Memphis followed with three consecutive wins to take the season's opening series. Oklahoma won three of four in the each of the next three series against Memphis to take the season matchup 10-6. The RedHawks also won last year's opener by just a single run.

Bottom of the Order: Ryan Roberts and Drew Meyer combined for five of the RedHawks ten hits yesterday from the seventh and eighth spots of the lineup. Roberts is one of just three players leading the PCL with three hits. Meyer didn't have his first multi-hit game until his fourth appearance in 2007.

DOT-DOT-DOT: Jarrod Saltalamacchia was the first RedHawk to be hit by a pitch this season, and subsequently scored the winning run last night... Luis Mendoza will make a rehab start on Monday for Oklahoma. Mendoza is currently on the Rangers' 15-Day Disabled List with a blister on his right-middle finger... The RedHawks rank in the middle of the pack in the PCL with a .256 average.
