Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The Oklahoma RedHawks fell 10-6 to the Memphis Redbirds Friday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Redbirds pounded out 15 hits on four RedHawks' pitchers, including two home runs and 12 singles. Memphis tagged Oklahoma starter A.J. Murray for four runs in the first inning and one in the second to build their lead. All five runs charged to Murray were unearned due to errors charged to Ryan Roberts.

The RedHawks were able to battle back for the second straight game, tallying two runs in the first, one in the second on Casey Benjamin's first home run of the season, and one in the third on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's first home run in Triple-A. Kevin Mench tied the game at five in the sixth, scoring on a Chris Shelton sacrifice fly, the third run driven in by Shelton in the game.

Memphis regained the lead in the seventh and never looked back. The Redbirds posted two runs in the inning, and followed with three in the eighth on Joe Mather's first home run of the year. Mather finished the night with three hits, four runs, and three runs batted in to lead Memphis. Chris Shelton lead off the bottom of the ninth with his first home run of the year and fourth run batted in for the game, but Chris Perez retired the next three batters to end the contest. Mark Worrell (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Redbirds, while Elizardo Ramirez (0-1) took the loss for the RedHawks.

Oklahoma and Memphis play the third game of this four-game set Saturday evening at 7:05 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
